Cold-warm intro email templates that actually convert (for fractional operators)

Six battle-tested email templates: warm intros, network reactivations, post-event follow-ups, and the "I'm going fractional" announcement. Copy, adapt, send.

Email is still the highest-leverage selling channel for fractional work — when you write like a human, not a marketer. These six templates have generated real fractional engagements in 2025–2026. Copy them. Send them today, not tomorrow.

01

Template 1 — "I'm going fractional" (send to the warm 80)

Subject: "Quick update — going fractional".

Hey [first name], short note — after [last role], I'm setting up shop as a fractional [role] for [stage] [vertical] companies. I help them [outcome] in [timeframe].

Two reasons I'm writing: (1) if you ever bump into a founder where this would help, I'd love a warm intro, and (2) if it's useful, happy to do a 30-min sounding-board call any time you want one — on the house, no pitch.

Either way, hope you're doing well. — [you]

02

Template 2 — Warm intro reply

Subject: Re: [intro thread] — quick hello.

Hey [first name], thanks [introducer] — moving you to bcc.

Short version on me: fractional [role] for [stage] [vertical], previously [1 line credibility]. From [introducer]'s note, sounds like you're working on [their problem]. Two questions before we book time: (1) what's triggered the search now, and (2) what does success look like 90 days from now?

Happy to grab 30 minutes any time this week or next — here's my calendar: [link]. — [you]

03

Template 3 — Reactivating a 2-year-old contact

Subject: "Long overdue".

Hey [first name] — overdue. I saw [recent specific thing about them] — congrats. Quick update on me: I'm now a fractional [role] for [niche], focused on [outcome].

No ask. Just wanted to put my hand up in case our paths line up. If they don't right now, all good — would love to hear what you're building when you've got 20 minutes. — [you]

04

Template 4 — Post-event follow-up

Subject: "Great chat at [event]".

Hey [first name], really enjoyed our chat about [specific topic] last night. You said [specific thing they said] — that stuck with me.

I work on this exact problem with [stage] companies — usually as a fractional [role]. If it'd be useful to compare notes for 30 minutes I'd love to. If not, all good — keep me posted on [thing they're working on]. — [you]

05

Template 5 — Asking for a referral mid-engagement

Subject: "Quick favor".

Hey [first name] — quick one. I'm opening up a couple new fractional slots for Q[X]. You know the work I'm doing for [client] — same problem space.

Two questions: (1) anyone in your network running into the same thing right now, and (2) if so, would you be willing to make a warm intro? Totally fine if not — I know intros are expensive currency. — [you]

06

Template 6 — "Closing the loop" on a stale proposal

Subject: "Closing the loop — [their company] × [you]".

Hey [first name], been a couple weeks since I sent the proposal. Closing this on my side unless I hear otherwise — totally understand timing or priorities can shift. If anything changes, my door's open. — [you]

This email closes more deals than three follow-ups. The implied scarcity is real because, for a working operator, it is.

About fractional cold email templates

Should I use AI to draft these?+

Use AI to outline, but rewrite every line by hand before sending. AI-flavored email is the fastest way to get filtered to the bottom of a founder's inbox.

How long should an intro email be?+

Under 120 words. If it doesn't fit on a phone screen without scrolling, it's too long.
